Today we are celebrating an incredible achievement after Nicola successfully completed the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon, raising hundreds of pounds for charity along the way.
After four months of dedicated training through the colder North East winter months, Nicola took on the challenge in unexpectedly warm conditions, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees on race day.
Describing the marathon as “without doubt, the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Nicola said the overwhelming support from spectators across the route helped carry runners through to the finish line.
“Edinburgh marathon, you were amazing,” Nicola said. “The feeling when we crossed the finish line is something I’ll never forget.”
She praised the atmosphere throughout the event, highlighting the encouragement from complete strangers, the incredible energy from supporters lining the streets and even a much-needed ice lolly handed to her at mile 17 by a spectator who quickly became “my favourite human!”
The marathon also marked an important fundraising milestone, with Nicola raising £700 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity. The funds raised will help support world-class cancer treatment and research across the North East.
Reflecting on the experience, Nicola encouraged others to challenge themselves and embrace opportunities that may initially seem impossible.
“If you ever have the crazy idea to run a marathon, do it,” she said. “You don’t realise what you’re capable of.”
We would like to congratulate Nicola on this fantastic achievement and thank everyone who sponsored, supported and encouraged her throughout the journey.
Completing a marathon is an achievement few people ever accomplish, officially placing Nicola amongst the 1% of people worldwide who can proudly say they’ve conquered the 26.2-mile challenge.
